The European Commission has been undertaking a public consultation on ways to revise the 1992 Energy Labelling Directive which requires the publication of energy and other resource consumption on household appliances. Suggestions under consideration include the extension of the current scheme to other energy-consuming appliances, such as televisions and other consumer electronics but also to installed water heaters and boilers.
Another suggestion is that certain non-energy-consuming products, such as windows, should be included in the scheme (the UK has already started development in this area).
