RIBA has announced an International Open Design Competition on behalf of Sheffield Media Centre Ltd. Submissions are invited from architects or architect-led teams for a new £3m building to extend the facilities provided by The Showroom cinema and Workstation cultural industries business centre.

The new building will include an auditorium, mediatheque, projection box, toilets, offices for small creative industry companies, on-street coffee shop and a new entrance for the Showroom cinema. Stage one judging will be looking for quality of concept and innovative spatial and social approaches to the viewing of film and new media. Sustainability should be a key driver for the project.
