| Falkirk energy efficiency pilot scheme |
| Categories for this story: UK Practice |
Falkirk Council will be carrying out pilot projects in 1,200 homes which are in areas known to be at high risk of containing “fuel poor” households where tenants struggle to meet heating costs.
As well as cavity wall insulation, the homes in the pilot project will receive loft insulation and a Benefits Health Check to help tenants maximise their income.
The work will be carried out this year and in 2007 with the pilot projects being paid for through Energy Efficiency Commitment funding from Scottish Gas and Scottish Power and Warm Deal funding through Communities Scotland.
Energy efficiency is a criterion of the Scottish Housing Quality Standard (SHQS). Falkirk Council will begin a local house condition survey in the next few months to establish what needs to be done to bring its housing stock up to SHQS requirements by 2015.
