The Environment Agency has recently been awarded the Civic Award shield at the Boston Preservation Trust’s Civic Pride Awards. The award celebrates the achievements of high design quality in new architecture, repair and restoration.
They received this honour for their work in reinstating the Black Sluice Lock to its former glory. The lock has been a Boston landmark for generations but was out of use for over 40 years until it had recently been brought back to life. This was made possible with the help of Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership, Lincolnshire County Council and British Waterways.
Andy Baxendale, Environment Agency Northern Area Manager, said: “It forms the first phase of the Fens Waterways Link and represents the Environment Agency’s dedication to working with its partners to improve people’s quality of life and protect the environment. It is fantastic that the people of Boston have recognised all the hard work that has gone into making Boston Lock not only a superb facility for boaters but also a local landmark which should herald a bright new future for the town.”
