Islay tidal power
Categories for this story: UK Practice, Renewables

Scottish Power is planning to supply the isle of Islay with tidal power, according to The Guardian newspaper.

It reported that the company is to submit a planning application soon for ten 30m underwater turbines which would provide 10MW of electricity for the island’s 3,500 residents and distilleries.

Scottish Power Renewables confirmed that it is evaluating three different coastal sites for the development of tidal stream projects, including the Sound of Islay, the fast-moving waters separating Islay and the neighbouring island of Jura.
