The UK’s first low carbon town has been announced, and its goal is to target 500 homes and install 300 renewable energy systems in a year.
Private properties in Aberdare, Wales, will be installed with a series of renewable technologies like solar thermal hot water heating systems and air source heat pumps. Micro generation and energy efficient measures will be also installed in the homes.
British Gas will on behalf of the Heads of the Valleys programme install technically advanced micro-CHP (combined heat and power) systems that could save a family of four almost £250 every year on utility costs.
Aberdare is part of a flagship project arranged by the Heads of the Valleys strategic regeneration programme, and it is a part of a larger scheme to make the region one of the UK’s greatest low carbon zones. Another aim of the project is to assess 65,000 homes for energy efficiency measures. The plan is connected to business development and jobs to develop the greatest concentration of renewable energy businesses in Europe.
