The US Green Building Council has agreed to collaborate with the Sierra Club’s Cool Cities Programme to bring together the experience of local campaigns and to push for national policies that improve buildings’ energy performance.
Announcing the move at the Greenbuild conference in Phoenix, the two bodies said they would highlight policies like better standards in government buildings, financial incentives and minimum energy efficiency standards.
“Local governments have long been laboratories of innovation when it comes to energy-efficiency, proving by example that sustainable building practices can be effectively brought to scale,” said USGBC’s senior vice president for global policy and law, Roger Platt.
