Net UK emissions down
Categories for this story: Energy Efficiency, UK Practice

Net UK emissions of the six greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol fell by 1.9% between 2007 and 2008, with the largest reduction – 7.3% – coming from the industrial processes sector. However the residential sector saw a rise of 3.1%.

DECC final figures for 2008 reveal that the UK as a whole emitted 628.3 million tonnes CO2 equivalent of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulphur hexafluoride.

Business emitted 2.6% less greenhouse gas in 2008 than it did a year before, although this figure is not broken down into different types of businesses.
