Stephen George & Partners has published a free online guide on Building Materials and the Environment, containing summaries and data sheets on commonly and not-so-commonly specified construction materials, as well as links to more information.

Pages simply show advantages and disadvantages of each material in terms of their sustainable credentials, referring to established sources such as the BRE Green Guide to Specification and offering sustainable alternatives to materials where relevant.

Authors Joanne Denison and Chris Halligan put together the guide while working on the Sustainable Construction Academy in Dartford, Kent, which the client wanted to be educational for visitors.
