UK construction is still ignoring financial benefits of reuse and recycling
Categories for this story: UK Policy, Waste & Recycling

Much of the construction industry remains largely unaware that careful use and reuse of materials on site can lead to significant cost savings, according to research by the British Urban Regeneration Association.

Waste Management in Urban Regeneration says that use of recycled materials does generate cost savings and there is no evidence to the contrary. But much of the industry believes it is unprofitable and costly and two-thirds of construction businesses don’t know what a site waste management plan is, and 60% don’t realise they become law next year.

“Our report has found the perception of recycling in construction is that it is costly and that it is putting companies off,” said BURA chief executive Jon Ladd. “This is a misperception that the report can help to correct.”
