Atkins has been appointed by Bahrain’s Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture (MoMA) to implement the Kingdom’s sustainable National Planning and Development Strategy.
The international engineering consultants will create a national land use plan which will form the basis of transport and infrastructure developments in the future.
It will also, over 13 months, update studies looking at demographic and economic trends, in order to better co-ordinate future developments.
Rob Ruse, Atkins director in Bahrain, said: “This groundbreaking initiative, led by his excellency the minister of MoMA, Dr Juma al Kaarbi, and general director Sheikh Hamad, represents the first time the Kingdom has taken a comprehensive look at planning and urban development. We’re delighted to be playing such a key role.”
The project will involve staff from across the Atkins group, as well as seconded staff from MoMA and other ministries in Bahrain. Atkins helped develop the Strategy in 2005.
