The restoration of a Victorian baths in Camden, London, has achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard.
The £25.3m refurbishment of the Kentish Town Sports Centre has retained the original design and harnessed an existing bore-hole to supply water for the three swimming pools, and used other energy efficient technologies.
Camden Council worked in partnership with Davis Langdon, Roberts Limbrick Architects, Cyril Sweett, Max Fordham consulting engineers, Alan Baxter and Associates and Wates Construction on the refurbishment.
Prefabricated glulam timber roof trusses were introduced into the building, along with a new-build reinforced concrete frame and a complete structural overhaul of two of the swimming pools.
