Kingspan Water has published a guide to reducing flood risk via surface water run-off in new builds in line with the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Kingspan’s GB sector development manager Andy Thompson said that as well as water usage rules in the Code, “there is also the recognition that flooding remains a very real threat in many areas of the country. This has resulted in an update to the technical guide to the Code, known as SUR1, which is designed to reduce surface water run-off. It is a mandatory section and therefore architects and developers need to adhere to it when building to Code standards”
SUR1 recommends that rainwater harvesting is considered wherever possible, as it reduces flood risk and allows for reuse, lowering fresh water consumption.
