A new Bill has been presented in the House of Commons that would see local plans for energy efficiency made transparent, and encourage energy efficiency at local authority level.
Presented by Martin Horwood MP, the Bill is supported by parties including Tim Yeo, chair of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee; Dan Rogerson, honourable treasurer of the Sustainable Resource Group; Joan Walley, chair of the Environmental Audit Committee and Caroline Lucas MP, leader of the Green party.
The Bill would promote energy efficiency; require local authorities to publish sustainable energy plans; make provision for a transfer of functions to principle councils and for connected purposes.
The Bill was read for the First time on 5 April, and will be read for the Second time on 25 November.
