A small-scale pilot project that will examine the viability of large-scale energy efficiency implementation and retrofitting is being prepared in Bristol, and will establish standards for retrofitting housing stock using around 4,000 homes.
Future Fit Bristol is an organisation made up of three local community based organisations, The Tree of Life, Knowle West Media Centre and re:work. Together, the project, based in Knowle West in Bristol, will “prepare homes and people for our green and digital future”.
It will address:
- retrofitting to save energy – assessing local homes and make material changes to buildings including wall and loft insulations, upgrade of heating systems and draft-proofing;
- training and employment – supporting local builders to develop skills in renewable and green construction. The pilot will offer traineeships and the potential for apprenticeships and longer-term work;
- behavioural change – engage the local community, builders, householders and trainees in environmental issues and retrofitting.
The project has not yet started, but the project is asking for people to show their support via the energy share website.
Mitsky Tunks, of Knowle West Media Centre said: “As a collaboration between local organisations, the Future Fit Bristol project will have strength and resilience. However, the support of individuals is vital to secure the funding that we need in order to deliver the pilot and, thus, support local people to move towards a more sustainable future for themselves and their homes.”
