Plans to build to biomass stations in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire have this month been approved by energy minister Charles Hendry.

The stations’ combined energy will produce enough electricity to meet the electricity needs of 1m million homes in the region.

Consent has been given to Drax Biomass (Selby) Limited and Drax Biomass (Immingham) to build two 299 MW biomass-fuelled power stations.

“I am very pleased to give the go ahead for these two new biomass power stations in Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire,” said energy minister Charles Hendry.

“They will not only enhance our security of supply, but provide low carbon electricity that reduces our carbon dioxide emissions.
