Mayor unhappy with Gateway homes
Categories for this story: UK Practice, Housing

Ken Livingstone is so unhappy at UK housebuilders’s plans to redevelop the Thames Gateway, he is urging European rivals to work with him to produce better solutions.

Interviewed on a Gardeners’ World Special programme last Friday (10 August) the Mayor of London said: “We are trying to target European housebuilders. We are busting a gut to say to them ‘come and show these guys what you can do’.”

He believes that UK housebuilders are not innovative enough when it comes to providing housing that meets residents’ needs in the 21st century.

Livingstone was being interviewed by Joe Swift as part of a special programme that highlighted what they claimed are developers exploiting a loophole in order to get new houses build in people’s back gardens.

The programme also looked at environmentally robust  housing solutions like BedZed in South London.
