Scottish homes are warmer and more energy efficiency, according to figures published recently.
The Scottish House Condition Survey 2010, just released, shows the number of families living in fuel poverty has been reduced, while levels of insulation have increased. To coincide with the figures, the Scottish Government also announced a budget increase to tackle fuel poverty by 35% in line with rising energy prices.
Key findings of the survey include:
- a reduction of households in fuel poverty from 33% to 28% between 2009-10
- 62% of homes now qualify as having a 'good' energy efficiency rating (a rating of 7 or more) compared to 55% in the previous year
- The number of dwellings without loft insulation has halved since 2003-04
- Cavity wall insulated properties has increased from 53% in 2007 to 62% in 2010.
Alex Neil, cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment said: "We know energy costs and the need to heat your home are major worries for people across Scotland - particularly as we head into winter. That is why it is encouraging to see more Scots homes becoming increasingly energy efficient, with better insulation
"While the number of homes passing the Scottish Housing Quality Standard is increasing under this Government, there still needs to be more done to improve the quality of our existing housing," he added.
