The shortlist of finalists in the running to design a Passivhaus demonstration project for BRE Watford and Ravenscraig have been named this month.

The competition to design a family house to Passivhaus standards will culminate in the construction and monitoring of two different designs – one in Watford and one in Ravenscraig in Scotland.

The finalists for the Watford house are:

• Passivhaus Design Solutions
• Bere:architects and the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, working with Hastoe Housing Group
• Sustainable by design
• Good Architecture
• AH3 Architekten
• Prewett Bizley Architects and Paul Davis + Partners.

The finalists for the Ravenscraig house are:

• The PassivCollective

• Bere:architects and the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment, working with Hastoe Housing Group
• Nicoll Russell Studios
• Sustainable by design

The winner will be announced on 31 January.
