Brockholes visitor centre
Categories for this story: Tenders and Contracts

RIBA has announced a competition to design new visitor facilities for the Brockholes Wetland and Woodland Nature Reserve near Preston in Lancashire.

The project is supported by Lancashire Wildlife Trust, the Northwest Regional Development Agency, the Forestry Commission and the Tubney Charitable Trust.

The facilities will include a café/restaurant, shop, gallery, education room and conference space.

The client wants a building of outstanding quality to inspire an estimated 250,000 visitors a year about the natural world. The visitor centre should be an exemplar of sustainable design and draw on local resources where possible.  A shortlist of five will share prize money of £11,000, and the winning design will be announced in November.

Deadline: Questions by 23 August, registrations by 3 September and submissions by 19 September. Registration fee is £35 payable by cheque to RIBA Competitions.
