BREEAM to get higher top grade
Categories for this story: Standards

BRE is likely to add another rating to BREEAM system which will be higher than the current top grade – “excellent”.

The environmental rating system awards points from 1-100, and currently anything over 70.1 gets an “excellent rating”.

Tom Saunders, responsible for special projects on the BREEAM team told SB; “ It is something we are looking. It is at a very early stage.”

On a minimum standard for energy use, Saunders said: “We don’t know what it will be, but it is likely there will be one.”

Saunders also confirmed that a building didn’t need to be zero carbon to reach the proposed top grade.
