The East of England Regional Assembly has suggested the Government replaces its “eco-towns” approach with an “eco-neighbourhoods” one which would see the principles applied to all major developments. Its response to the housing green paper says all new development in the region should now be built to the highest environmental standards, in contrast to the last five years when only 18% of new private housing met CABE’s “good” or “very good” standards. New developments should contribute more to community facilities, it says.
