DCLG has released a draft Planning Policy Statement on climate change. Intended as a supplement to PPS1 Delivering Sustainable Development, the draft proposes that planning strategies be tested on their carbon ambition and, in providing for new homes, jobs and infrastructure, shape places with lower carbon emissions which are resilient to climate change.
The PPS expects new development to be located where it will optimise its carbon performance and make the most of existing and planned opportunities for decentralised, renewable and low-carbon energy supplies.
Responses are required by 8 March.
