DCLG’s proposals for water efficiency in homes are designed to reduce homes’ water consumption by 15-20%, with equivalent savings in offices and shops. The consultation asks:
- whether to set standards for fixtures or whole buildings
- what level of performance should be set for fittings?
- are additional measures needed?
- are building regulations the right delivery mechanism?
- should standards be set for institutions like schools and hospitals?
“These are relatively cheap and effective ways to reduce water demand,” said buildings minister Angela Smith. Views are needed by 9 March.
